today tasted like december.
Today tasted like December
When we’d light candles after cooking together
I was just decluttering my apartment
And I stumbled upon one of the oatmeal packs you bought for your breakfast
And all of a sudden, like a broken beaded necklace, our memories flooded my bloodstream.
My vision blurred up
And you came flashing in glaring time lapses
Of times when you used to cook me salmon over the counter
And notifications of your name would infiltrate my phone after you’d send snaps of the beautiful meal you cooked
Today, I felt your spirit
It felt just like December
When everything made sense
When I didn’t have to clear up some space to make room for your loss
